Job Description

We are hiring experienced Class A CDL OTR Truck Drivers to join our team. You’ll haul clean, palletized freight across our primary service regions in modern, well-maintained equipment. The role centers on safe operation, on-time delivery, and professional customer service.

Hiring and Service Area
  • Freight lanes focus on the Midwest, South, and Southeast
  • No runs to the West Coast or Northeast
  • Drivers must reside within our hiring area

Home Time

This is an OTR position requiring a minimum of two weeks out at a time. If weekends home are a priority, this will not be a fit. Most drivers follow a set schedule with flexibility. On home weekends, drivers typically go home loaded Friday and deliver locally on Monday.

Compensation

Chermak Cartage offers competitive pay and benefits for Class A CDL OTR drivers.

  • Average Weekly Gross: $1,500 – $2,000
  • Guaranteed Weekly Minimum: $1,250
  • Mileage Performance: Drivers averaged 3,195 miles per week (2025, historical performance)
  • All Miles Paid – loaded and deadhead
  • Short-Haul Supplement: Minimum 500 miles paid on runs under 500 miles
  • $150 Layover Pay
  • $25 per Hour Detention
  • $40 per Additional Stop (after two standard stops)
Driver Requirements
  • Valid Class A CDL
  • 24+ months of verifiable OTR experience
  • Safe driving record – no accidents, violations, or tickets in the past 24 months
  • No SAP history, no truck abandonments
  • Must live within our hiring area

We do not hire recent CDL school graduates and do not offer an entry-level training program. All applicants must have at least 24 months of verifiable OTR tractor/trailer experience.

  • Able to open hood, climb in/out of tractor, and safely enter/exit trailers

Our trucks are equipped with a rear diesel-fired bunk heater and electronic AC. Drivers can control the system using Optimized Idle (Comfort Mode or Battery Mode) for efficient temperature and idle management.

Each tractor also includes a 3000+ watt inverter for added driver convenience.

We operate mostly dry vans and some bulk tankers. We do not run reefer trailers. Our freight primarily consists of clean, palletized commodities transported in food-grade dry vans. We avoid hauling products that could contaminate the trailer or lead to future rejections.
